Pokeit includes a little known feature that lets you securely share your entire database with another Pokeit user. This feature, called “Secure Share”, was built with coaches and backers in mind, but you can share your database with anyone as long as they have a Pokeit account.
Why share your entire database?
Secure Share eliminates the need to share passwords or use a screen sharing application in order to let another person look through your database. There are several situations where you might like to share your entire Pokeit database:
- You’ve hired a coach and want to give them access to the hands you’ve played so they can help you find your leaks
- You are a coach and want an easy way to track your student’s progress
- You’re being backed and need to provide results to your backer
- You’re a backer and want an easy way to keep track of the people you've backed
- You’re in a private study group. If you’re working with other players, it helps to be able to pull up the hands you’ve played for review
How to share your database
You can grant access to another user from the Secure Share section of the Account page. Here you’ll find a section called Users who can access my database. Clicking the button that says + add another Pokeit user will open a popup explaining what you’re about to do. By agreeing to share your database, you're granting another user access to all of your hand histories and tournament results, as well as any visualizations you've created. Access to other information such as your payment method and account details is never revealed to anyone but yourself. To send an invitation to access, type in the email address or username of person you want to share your database with and hit send. In the case of email address, it has to be the same email address the user has on file with Pokeit.
Once you send an invitation, their name will be added to the Users who can access my database section with a note saying they’ve been invited. After your invitation has been accepted, the invited note will be removed and we’ll show the date and time they accepted.
You can revoke access to your database at anytime by clicking remove access next to the user name.
How to access another user’s database
The only way you can gain access another user’s database is through an invitation sent by the owner of the database. Invitations are sent via email to the address you used to sign up for Pokeit. Look for an email with the subject line “You have been granted access to [Username]’s Pokeit database”. Click the link in the email to accept the invitation.
Once you accept the invitation, we’ll add that user’s name to the section in the Account page that says Databases I have access to. Right next to the user’s name is a link for viewing their database. You can also click on the user’s name to leave a note in case there’s anything you want to remember about that database.
Clicking on the view database link takes you directly into their dashboard. You can now access their poker data and load visualizations just like they can. You’ll notice one difference–the header is grey instead of black. This is a visual cue letting you know you’re looking at another user’s database and not your own. You can switch back to your database by clicking on the Account button in the header. Now instead of taking you directly to your account page, it will trigger a popup allowing you to navigate back to your own database along with any other databases shared with you. You can click on Account Settings from this popup to go back to your account page.
